IT Exports rise 36% to touch $22-b mark

 

Member units of STPI have exported software of over Rs. 1,00,809 Crores estimated by the end of financial year 2005-2006. The total exports by STP units in the year 2004-05 were Rs. 74019 Cr. The growth in exports for the FY 2005-06 as compared to FY 2004-05 is an impressive 36%.

STP Scheme, which is a 100% export oriented scheme, has attracted many entrepreneurs in the area of software and services. More than 6000 units are registered under STPI umbrella out of which more than 4200 units have exported software in FY 2005-06. The unique features of the STP scheme-one-stop services by including datacom services, incubation facilities etc has attracted a large number of software exporters for registration under the STPI administered scheme.

The highest exports by STPI registered units were from the state of Karnataka (Rs. 37000 Cr), followed by Maharashtra (Rs 15500 Cr) and Tamil Nadu (Rs. 13960 Cr). The export of software by STP units in various states, are as under:

 
 

STPI is also implementing various important projects of National importance such as setting up of the first Bio-IT Park in the country. The project is being implemented in the form of the Public-Private Partnership model.

STPI has formed a joint venture company with MTNL, ‘MTNL-STPI IT Services Ltd' for the implementation of India in portal and associated services. The portal would be having citizen centric content, features and services. A key feature of the portal in e-mail service in Indian language apart from English
